Duo Kramer Cholet

by hilaria kramer

Hilaria Kramer and Jean Christophe Cholet met for the first time while recording the Cd "Costalta" of the Swiss drummer Silvano Borzacchiello.
The interesting combination of sound and improvisations touched them immediately and they started to play in Duo in Italy and Switzerland.

Cholet played with projects as the VAO, in Duo with Matthieu Michel, in Trio with Heiri Känzig and Marcel Papaux and as well with musicans as Franc Tortillier, Dominique Pifarély, Louis Sclavis, Michel Portal oder Wolfgang Puschnig. Hilaria Kramer has as well a rich professional career as a trumpet player of musicians as wie Steve Lacy, Joe Henderson, Gianluigi Trovesi, Chet Baker, David Murray, Vienna Art Special and many others.

They worked out a new and eciting repertory of own compositions and old and popular melodies from brazilian composers off the beginning of the last century. The melodies are used as a unifying language between Folk and contemporary Jazz. This Duo interpretes besides their own compositions, tunes written by historical Brazilian composers (1900- 1950 ca) as Noel Rosa, Catulo and Geraldo Pereira.
Inspiration and Improvisation begin slowly to rotate around the melodies and let appear somehow from far, notes from the folkish side of their project. This music breaths and surprises with its whispering and somehow exploding conversations.
The new repertory has been recorded at the Auditorium of the Swiss RSI in Lugano and the CD will be released in October ‘08 for the swiss Jazzlabel Unit Records.
